It’s the water you can not see that could ruin your structure! Pitch or tar utilized to water-proof exterior walls at the time of original building and construction often deteriorate in as low as 3 to 5 years leaving the wall surfaces unprotected versus the incredible hydrostatic pressure of a high water table, underground streams or blood vessels.

An excess of water around grounds could weaken them creating harmful settlement of the structure.

Concrete is made primarily of sand. Envision exactly what will occur to a block of sand in a swimming pool of water. The erosion of concrete occurs similarly, over time with the structure gradually softening, then weakening until it paves the way, bringing water into the basement or worse. This disintegration could take place in block structures even quicker since they are typically hollow to start with.

When water has actually made it to the inside of the basement with the wall surfaces and/or floor, it can only get worse. As you could see, the water you see in the cellar is only a ” Sign”– not the trouble.

One way or another, the majority of resident will have to do some form of basement waterproofing if they have any sub-soil area in their house.

French Drain Solutions

Another generally recognized approach is drawing away surface water far from the foundation by the production of a French drainpipe. This basically is a trench, commonly containing perforated pipeline covered with gravel or rock that redirects surface area water far from an area. It includes the laying of pipeline and utilizes gravity to drain water from a peak to a low point some range away. It could include cutting up and changing well established landscape design and concrete. A French drainpipe can last for some time without upkeep, but it can end up being blocked with sediment and trigger a backup right into the cellar.

This was the second visit by Vulcan – the service technicians were very professional and did an amazing job – reviewed the project with me and explained what they were going to do and why they needed to do it – then they started right in and did the work. I would highly recommend this crew to anyone looking to get a water issue resolved in their basement.

Great service, very knowledgable staff and hard working crew! Install went well: 160 linear feet of underdrain pipe and crushed stone with 2 sump pits (one pit with 1 pump and the other upper pit with 2 pumps). Pumps run fine when needed. We now have a dry finished basement with peace of mind. Thanks Vulcan, great job!

Our basement flooded several times and had water level of up to 4 feet in one corner of the house. Vulcan assessed the situation and added french drains and new sump pump. They were very professional and not too costly. We haven’t had any issues since, this was in early 2000s.
